Singapore, Singapore

6:10 PM

Hey, guys! It's your girl Andrea back with the second blog post! For the past 2 weeks I've been traveling to Singapore and Jakarta, Indonesia, and I want to share pictures I have so far, the edited and unedited! First off is Singapore!

Sydney-->Singapore ✈️
There were so many things that we've done over the 4 days we've stayed in Singapore, so I probably will highlight the places, the food, and the sites that stood out the most.

Day 1

The first thing we did after we landed was eat because trips like these are for eating, right? We first went to Jumbo Seafood, known for the infamous Singaporean chili crab. We ordered that in addition to the black pepper crab and mantou (饅頭).
From top left clockwise: Mantou, black pepper crab, and Singaporean chili crab
The Singaporean chili crab was by far the most delicious dish I have ever tasted! The blend of thick sweet and spicy sauce that also had that egg drop/corn starch consistency was so satisfying in every bite. The mantou is also dipped into that special blended sauce, and it was beyond describable. Everyone traveling to Singapore must try this! No joke. The black pepper crab was also delightful especially since I'm not a huge fan of overly peppering my dishes. It was a bit more on the dry sauce side, but hey, not complaining! This was also good in every bite. Overall, this was such a satisfying meal despite the priciness of it. The sauce to crab proportion was on point, and the ambience was great as well!
Clarke Quay
One of the places that stood out was Clarke Quay, where Jumbo Seafood was located. This place resembled a little Italian-esque waterfront with boats carrying 10-20 people sailing across the waters. It was really pretty especially at night with the bridge lighting up in different colors.

Day to night at Clarke Quay

The next stop was Marina Bay Sands! The view at Marina Bay Sands of the city was absolutely gorgeous especially with the waterfront reflection. It just looks like front row seats to an awesome site-seeing view!

Another must see is the Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay. I know there was a light show happening every night, but this was past the time. So only the trees were lit up. It was still a really nice view!

Day 2

Chinatown
First stop of the day was Chinatown! I've heard so many things about Chinatown from cheap Hawker Center food to decently priced shopping, so this was an it place to go! The first thing we did was wander the streets in Chinatown before we made it to the Hawker Center that contains the ONLY Hawker food stall that has a Michelin star.
Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle
First thing we saw when we arrived at the food stall was a 10-15 people wait line. The wait was actually not too bad. I heard the wait could even be 1- 1 1/2 hours wait! Luckily, we arrived early and had to wait only 30 minutes. To actually get the food was pretty fast because the meat was already cut by 2-3 kitchen staff. I think the wait was 30 minutes just because the people in line before us were maybe indecisive or asking too many questions. But anyway, moving along to the food!
Soy Sauce Chicken Rice
From top clockwise: Soy Sauce Chicken Rice,
Char Siew Rice, Soy Sauce Chicken Rice, and Oyster Sauce Vegetable
I can't believe one plate of chicken rice costed only $2. It was such a guilt-free and delicious meal! The chicken was marinated with their special soy sauce that was pretty different from your regular soy sauce. It had this nice blend of sweet and salty taste that was in my opinion really tasty! Everyone must try this when going to Singapore. A Michelin Star Hawker stall and reasonable prices that don't burn a hole in your wallet. What more is not to love?
Chinatown
Es Chendol
After shopping at Chinatown and feeding ourselves a round of coconut, es chendol, and cheng tng desserts, we headed over to Orchard Road for shopping and the infamous ice cream sandwich.
From left clockwise: Durian, Chocolate, Taro
The ice cream sandwich was so good too! The durian ice cream was my favorite. It had a perfect balance of bitter and sweet to the ice cream. The taro ice cream was too milky and artificially-flavored. So what I recommend is the durian ice cream for all those durian lovers like me!

In Orchard Road, there were many shopping centers, but the ones that I would recommend is Ion and Takashimaya. Ion has plenty of restaurants and shopping, that makes it a one-stop shopping center. Takashimaya, which is one of the department stores, impressed me with the food level. There were plenty of desserts, food, and drinks for all those foodies like me! The most noted one I found was the durian pancake. It was literally to die for! We found food courts at the food level as well, but the prices did not beat the ones at the Hawker centers. You will definitely find the same kinds of foods at Takashimaya at Hawker centers, so definitely go to Hawker centers.

The next places we went to were Bugis Street and Geylang. Bugis Street was also another Hawker center with quite a good amount of local shops selling clothes, jewelry, handbags, and accessories. Bugis Street was also known for their Hawker food, but we were too full to eat anymore, so the only one we ate was the dragon's breath candy. It was okay for the first few bites, but the sweetness was too overpowering that it became too sweet. The nitrogen-infused candy did not last until the end because there was no more steam coming out. Overall, this was only good for a one time trial.

After Bugis Street, we headed over to Geylang, which was known for their durian. We were just curious as to how the place will look like, and literally one side street was lined up with durian. The durian was alright, but it was pricey to try it out.

And this concludes my 2 days of Singapore! I'll try to upload the next 2 days within the next few days or so. Until then, see ya!
